The most potent and universal movement occurs in the primary process of exchange between ourselves and our environment. Its rhythm moves everything. Breath is a means of reaching into our internal landscape to create currents of information, nourishment, revitalization, and healing. There is nothing more distinctly "us" than our breathing rhythm. It is as intimate as our signature, or our fingerprints. When we are in pain or afraid, we freeze, causing the cycles of open/close, act/rest, give/receive to become interrupted. The most powerful way to settle ourselves is to join the fundamental rhythm of open/close once again. This slows the system and resets our fight/flight mechanisms.
