Karen holds a BA in dance and was a movement artist and performer for 20 years. She began developing an active practice in Bodywork, Structural Integration and Somatic Education in 1985.
Upon receiving her dance degree Karen received a Rolfing series that resulted in a significant reduction in the degree of her spinal curvature (scoliosis). This profound change launched her on her path. Her awe and respect for the magic of Structural Integration has continued to grow and develop over the last 30 years.
Karen has a particular interest in discerning movement patterns and providing movement cues allowing clients to discover how to identify and maintain neutral alignment in their daily lives. It is a most satisfying occupation to work with clients, putting two hearts and minds together to solve the mystery of individual expression through alignment.
Karen has been an on-going student in the field of Somatics for the past 40 years including work in Modern Dance, Skinner Releasing, Biokinetics/Hanna Somatics, Aston Patterning®, Feldenkrais®, Kenesis and Continuum. As an outgrowth of her studies Karen developed her own movement awareness classes, Somatic Unwinding and Essential Breathwork. Her passion for language, movement and sensation enable her to create heightened sensory awareness and receptivity to the message of our senses through movement. She maintains active study of and practice in the movement process Continuum.
Karen has graduated from a 4 year Certification Training in September 2022, and now is a Guild Certified Feldenkrais® Practitioner. The Method addresses how our functions affect our posture, actions and attitudes, using sensory-motor learning as a means to change damaging habits into better choices. It is the consummate learning modality, using movement to improve how we function in harmony with our environment.
